I love having a partner who supports my learning addiction

I grew up the youngest of 6. While we were solidly middle class, middle class families being raised in the 70's certainly didn't spend lavishly. When it came to hobbies, it was clear that each kid picked one hobby that would be supported (in some financial way) by Mom and Dad.

I loved playing sports so I was supported in league soccer. I loved competing and enjoyed it fully. I also had a brother who started playing piano at age 4. My mother first taught him, but eventually he got lessons. By the time we reached college, he would play Gershwin's Bohemian Rhapsody at any available piano with ease. My sisters and I loved listening to him immensely. While I had taught myself guitar in high school, I always longed to play the piano.

My husband knew this and for my 30th birthday he bought me a year's worth of piano lessons!

I never strived or expected to reach the caliber of my brother's playing. I told my teacher candidly I would be happy as a clam if I could finally play Beethoven's Fur Elise. And I did. This was all possible because my husband knew I desperately wanted my life to be more fulfilled with this skill. Music enriches my life and by learning how to play an instrument, that joy expanded.

I hope you travel through life with a partner or friends that support your desire to grow through learning.
